life without a Definite Major Purpose

Amplify’d from www.naphill.org

Living without a definite major purpose promises nothing but a scant living.

You may get by in life without a Definite Major Purpose, but you will never get ahead. Definiteness of purpose is the starting point of all achievement. Financial goals in particular should be specific, definite, and measurable. You should know what you plan to earn, by when, and how you plan to do so. The greatest advantage of financial security is the peace of mind that comes from knowing that, whatever challenges life brings, you are equipped to deal with them. You will be better at whatever you choose to do because you can focus on opportunities instead of struggling to eke out a living.

Pain and Suffering In the Name of Science

Amplify’d from www.popsci.com

Eating Roundworm Eggs

In a study published Dec. 2, doctors told the story of a 36-year-old California man who swallowed worm eggs to treat his inflammatory bowel disease. The anonymous man visited a doctor in Thailand and swallowed the eggs of a human roundworm that infects the large intestine. It wasn’t a complete lark — the man had brushed up on the medical literature and knew that several researchers have proposed worm therapy to provide relief for anything from Crohn’s disease to asthma.

But his leap of faith paid off. Within a year of gulping down roundworm eggs, his symptoms had all but disappeared, scientists said. They explain that his body produced mucus in an effort to expel the worms, and the thick fluid coated the man’s intestines, soothing the ulcers in the lining of his colon.

This photo shows Trichuris trichiura roundworm eggs taken during a colonoscopy.

Climate Change Causes Episode 1-It's All About Carbon

(Short 3 minute video at the site that I could not clip.)
Would you rather learn about climate change through public broadcasting or commercial driven television?
clipped from www.npr.org

Episode 1: It's All About Carbon

When the subject is global warming, our mood is usually "uh-oh." Which makes sense, because a warmer Earth will lead to all kinds of disruptions and expensive adjustments that we could do without.

But there is another way to think about all of this.

What we have done here is a chemistry lesson, one that begins with the elemental cause of global warming: the behavior of the carbon atom.

And since carbon atoms are rather small, we have turned our atom into a cartoon. Just so you can see it better.

This is the introductory segment of a five-part series that explains how carbon atoms form bonds, break apart and create the conditions that can lead to global warming. Since most of us are beginners when it comes to elemental chemistry, this is a lesson in five, easy-to-grasp steps. And grasping, by the way, is a big part of our story.

In this, the first lesson, we introduce our atom.

The Power of Half

A model for the 1 percenters (ref. Jamie Johnson)
There is a good video explanation at the site.

Through The Power of Half, our family set out to make a small difference in the world and ended up transforming ourselves. We found that creating a "half" project was an amazing powerful tool to building deeper connections and trust among us. While the book tells our family story, this site is designed to help you learn more about giving and hopefully to better bond your family, community or any group through a unified sense of purpose.

How Legal Service Plans Benefit You

Legal Services are a type of Legal Insurance. Unlike auto insurance where you hope you never have to use it, legal plans often allow you to exert your rights meaning cash rewards. It is good for you and the country when you stand up for what is right by exerting your rights. It also protects people coming behind you.
