UPDATE on Co-Op Raided in Rural Ohio

There is an excellent comment posted by Marsaili on 12/10/08 at 12:13AM

So, Mr. Assistant County Prosecutor,

You are looking to protect our health, are you? Did you ever consider that the people like me who actually belong to the co-op are actually healthier since using the co-op because they provide us with natural, organic, untainted foods? Why aren't you protecting us from big agribusiness? Why is Monsanto allowed to get away with poisoning the world with their hormones that make cows produce more milk...

I think if the Government went back to protecting rights then people would only by food from people they trusted. They would take more responsibility for what they put in their mouth. As it is, the government gets involved and we trust them when they say it is ok, but it is not.

Lorain County Sheriff's Office disputes 'raid' at Manna Storehouse

The family is not talking, but the Lorain County Sheriff's Office, which conducted the "raid" along with the county Health Department and the Ohio Department of Agriculture, is puzzled by the outcry over what it calls the "very uneventful" execution of a simple search warrant.

Resendez said four deputies conducted the search over three or four hours -- not the nine
claimed on some sites. There was no SWAT team and no semiautomatic weapons.

Manna has members affirm that they "take full responsibility for their own health, health choices, food choices and food quality."

County officials say the business cannot operate that way

Manna cannot ask customers to waive safety regulations

"You just can't have that," he said. "There has to be some kind of regulation and inspection of food."

"Protection of health is one of the important roles of government," Serazin said. "That's what this is all about."
